SDG Financing in South-East Asia

All South-East Asian countries fully support the Sustainable Development Agenda although the level of progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) varies as they are different with respect to their individual implementation plans and policies. ESCAP’s analysis (Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2019) shows that Asia and the Pacific, including South-East Asian countries, can afford the investment required to achieve the SDGs. Most countries can develop the necessary fiscal space to invest in their future through a wider tax base and more efficient public spending as well as active private sector involvement. This policy brief examines the progress in SDG implementation, financing challenges and investment gaps and offers policy recommendations.
